Abstract

Abstract: This community service activity aims to foster ecological awareness from an early age among students of IT Al Wahdah Kendari Elementary School through plant nursery practices at the Botanical Garden of Halu Oleo University (UHO), Kendari City. The target participants were fifth-grade students of IT Al Wahdah Kendari Elementary School, who were invited to learn about the nursery process of local endemic plant species, starting from seed selection, sowing, to seedling maintenance. The method employed an educational-participatory approach, in which the participants not only received theoretical materials but also actively engaged in tree seedling nursery activities at the Nursery House of the UHO Botanical Garden. The results of the activity indicated an increased sensitivity of the students toward environmental conservation, a growing interest in ecological awareness, and the students' ability to recognize various types of local endemic plant seedlings from Sulawesi. This activity demonstrates that an experience-based ecological learning approach can serve as an effective means to preserve and care for the environment from an early age. Consequently, this activity is expected to serve as a model for sustainable ecological learning that can be implemented across various elementary education institutions.
